“Worship Even in Dark Times”
It’s easy to praise and worship God when things are going very well with us. It’s more difficult to worship when we’re in a valley or feeling like our back is pinned against a wall with no relief in sight. If asking a group of people to STATE favorite Bible verses, almost without fail, someone will quote, “He will NEVER leave me nor forsake me.”
That’s not just a verse; it’s an actual PROMISE from the MOUTH of God. When we are in a tough spot, the enemy attacks us mentally and emotionally. We’re vulnerable and often afraid there’s no way out of a certain situation.
These are the times we really need to be thankful for the promises of God. We must remember during discouraging times that the God we serve never changes. There’s nothing that makes Him nervous, weak, or concerned He can’t reverse any situation. With Him, nothing is impossible and there’s nothing He can’t do. The Psalmist said, “I will praise You, O Lord, with all my heart: before the ‘gods’ I will sing Your praise” (138:1).
Did you notice the small “g” on gods? It makes me think of a young kid being picked on by a bully, but he’s unafraid and will taunt his adversary by sticking his tongue out at him. May we never be afraid or bullied by our adversary the Devil, but always sing praises to our God. And yes, if you’re up to it, stick your tongue out at the evil one. God is for you, not against you .“If God be for you, who can be against you?”( Romans 8:31).
We don’t worship God because things are good or otherwise. We worship Him because of His sovereign oversight of our life. Job said, “Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” (2:10). V. Raymond Edman said, “Never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light.”
