"You Can Do This" - Thursday August 7, 2025

“You Can Do This”

Everyone wants a miracle, but here’s the catch – no one wants to be in any situation that necessitates one. Of course you can’t have one without the other. The prerequisite for a miracle is a problem and the bigger the problem, the greater the potential for a miracle. Miracles happen every day and are all around us, we rarely see them because we don’t aren’t looking for them..

Ask someone what Jesus’ first miracle was and most will say– “Turning water into wine” at a wedding feast. The bride and groom had a problem. Jesus’ mother came to Him saying, “They are out of wine.”  Many feel the response Jesus gave was harsh and out of character, “Why do you involve me? My time has not come yet?” If you are unfamiliar with this miracle, take your Bible or Smart phone and look up John 2:1-10. Rather than focusing on the miracle itself, I’d like us to consider the words of Mary, “They have no more wine” (v 3).

Because the Lord knows everything, I believe Jesus already knew the situation and giving a thought on his response will wait for another day. His mother informed him of the situation. Let’s say she had the faith and confidence her son could do something about the situation. She “pushed,” or “encouraged” Him. Perhaps Mary was speaking words as those of a prophet. In New Testament terms a prophet is simply on who speaks words of strengthing, comfort, and encouragement by the Holy Spirit.

Whether you realize it or not, you and I have the ability to speak prophetic words into the life of another which ultimately could change their life forever. You are more than your personal identity. You’re more than a parent, teacher, coach, boss, administrative assistant, sibling, or friend. You are an undercover prophet used by the Holy Spirit, divinely appointed at a specific time and place by God to speak grace and truth into another person’s life. If you think of those who influenced your life the most during your formative years, you’ll recall someone who believed and instilled confidence in you. Today God can use you to do the same for some who really needs an encouraging word. “You can do this!”
