"Enemies of Our Fairh" - Friday August 8, 2025

“Enemies of Our Faith”

The Bible uses the word “adversary” to describe an opponent, enemy, or someone who opposes or resists. The most prominent use of this word in scripture refers to Satan, the devil, or an enemy of God and humanity. God can give us peace in the midst of “unpeaceful” situations that develop in life. While Satan abounds in numerous ways attacking our faith, the Lord is the anchor that holds us firm and steady during the storms that come.

As followers of Christ, our enemy is the devil and he’s watching and ready to pounce when we become vulnerable. I Peter 5:8 puts it this way, “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

There are three natural enemies that attack our faith: Worry – Doubt – and Fear. Satan’s attacks often come in ways to hurt us emotionally with words of criticism, or words tearing down our self-esteem or self-confidence. Negativity is contagious and that’s why we should be careful about who we hang out with. It’s very common today for people to compromise the Word of God by watering down it’s meaning so as to fit a certain lifestyle.

God has blessed the human race with an incredible gift – our brain. The mind is a powerful gift and if used properly will be our greatest asset. If not, our worst enemy. The mind is shaped by what we learn, hear, and see. If bent toward good things, then we will be pulled toward good things. It can also be deceived and severely damaged by the words of others, substance abuse and even failure to give or receive forgiveness of a wrong that’s been committed.

It’s been said many times, the only way Satan can hurt God, is by hurting his people. As a follower of Christ, you have a target on your back and the enemy desires to destroy your faith. The good news is, you aren’t fighting these battles alone, for “Greater is He that is within me, than he that is in the world!” (I John 4:4). The Holy Spirit is your greatest ally. He not only protects each of us but can keep us from hurting others with our insults, criticisms, and actions.
